For Dedee Culley, RN (she/her), her work as a cannabis nurse is far more than a job or career: It's a calling. Dedee grew up wanting to become a nurse and a teacher. Over 20 years ago, she was able to combine those two passions by becoming an RN and seizing opportunities to teach whenever she could. As an RN, she saw how patients benefited from medical cannabis use when more advanced medications failed. In 2014, Dedee searched for a way to better manage the chronic pain and anxiety she'd dealt with for years and discovered that more holistic and naturopathic therapies, including cannabis, offered more hope than prescription medications had. In 2018, she learned that cannabis helped children with various forms of epilepsy. Later that year came her biggest personal challenge: her husband was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, terminal brain tumor. She researched day and night to find what would provide the best hope. Again, she found cannabis. Dedee's personal experiences have driven her passion exponentially to provide best practices and most successful methods to all medical cannabis patients. Dedee is a Cannabis Sommelier Interpener with the Trichome Institute and owner of 2 Leaf Nurses, offering medical cannabis education workshops for social groups and community organizations in Missouri, as well as cannabis education sessions for health care professionals, agencies, and organizations of all sizes and backgrounds. Congratulations to Dedee for being elected to the Missouri Nurses Association for 2021 and 2022! |

Caitlin Bernhard, MSN, FNP (she/her) is a Cannabis Nurse Practitioner and Holistic Wellness Coach with a background in Family Medicine, Massage and Bodywork, Hatha Yoga, and Herbalism. She is originally from Western Massachusetts, where she returned after practicing massage and bodywork in Brooklyn while earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nursing at Pace University in Manhattan. Caitlin is the owner/founder of Azalla Wellness, LLC, and a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association. Since late 2017 Caitlin has worked as a Cannabis Nurse Practitioner throughout Massachusetts, providing education, consultation, and certifications for MA Cannabis patients. Caitlin joyfully came to work with cannabis medicine to escape the brutal reality of modern health care: a broken system driven by pharmaceutical and insurance interests, overpriced services, and fear of litigation—a healthcare system that profits from illness and ignorance of preventative health and wellness. One of the many reasons she loves working with Cannabis medicine is that the very process of learning to medicate with this plant is empowering. Working with cannabis allows people to take their health into their own hands and opens the door to connection with plant medicine and wellness. |

Nicole S. Brown, RN BSN (she/her) is a registered nurse with more than 15 years of experience in various healthcare settings. She is the founder of Sage Decoded, and is committed to educating and advocating for patients and providers as they learn to safely treat a host of conditions with medical cannabis. Nicole began her professional nursing career in adult medical and surgical, both with the general public and on a secure correctional unit. She then transitioned to working extensively with the pediatric population including inpatient pediatrics, outpatient pediatric offices, inner-city pediatric medical daycare centers, pediatric homecare, and in pediatric sleep medicine. As Nicole worked to provide passionate care for her patients, a natural crossover between her professional and personal life began. After trying different prescription drugs to manage her personal anxiety, Nicole began looking into medical cannabis, but quickly realized there was very little information available on how to use it safely and effectively. After a lot of research (and some trial and error), she was able to create a cannabis treatment plan that worked for her and Sage Decoded was born. Nicole understands the importance of sharing her knowledge of the Endocannabinoid System in the body, application of medical cannabis for a variety of medical conditions, the components of the cannabis plants, and the importance of advocacy to de-stigmatize and legalize cannabis in the United States. Nicole has received her cannabis certificate from the Training Academy of Medical Cannabis in 2020. She is also a current member of Virginia NORML, American Cannabis Nurses Association, Cannabis Nurses Network, and Cannabis Nurses of Color. |
