Medical Marijuana Update: CBD Critical Mass

Posted by Jessilyn Dolan on 29th Sep 2020

Each cannabinoid has different therapeutic and medicinal properties. THC is famously known to get you “high”, while discuss THC acting as an anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, and an analgesic, just to name a few. CBD, the second most studied cannabinoid, is spoken about having those same positive effects as well as anti-seizure, anti-anxiety, and antipsychotic effects, without the typical “high” feeling.

Depending on the reason for use and desired effects, some consumers respond better with higher amounts of CBD and low THC, some need higher THC with small amounts of CBD, while others prefer and benefit most from a balanced 1:1 ratio of both THC and CBD. There are a myriad of dosage ratios when it comes to THC and CBD, having equal amounts of each cannabinoid either bred into the plant or concocted via cannabis alchemy means a differing therapeutic, medicinal effect. The ratio can be further adjusted, such as a 4:1 or 10:1, depending on what the intended use is and even for what time of day it may be!

A prescription pharmaceutical 1:1 CBD to THC mouth spray called Sativex (Nabiximol) is made in the UK (available in several countries) and prescribed for the management of spasticity related to multiple sclerosis. US FDA approval is still pending.

Jessilyn with Critical Mass

CBD Critical Mass is a CBD:THC 1.5:1 cultivar that offers medicinal support alongside some monstrous yields. The crossbreeding of Critical Mass (Afghani and Skunk #1) and CBD parents have resulted in a highly medicinal cultivar that is 80% Indica dominant.

High in myrcene, the most abundant terpene in cannabis (also found in ylang-ylang, bay, parsley, wild thyme, lemongrass, hops, cardamom, and the mango fruit), this terpene is often described as tasting spicy/peppery, earthy, piney and musky. Myrcene carries sweet undertones, compared to ripe mango and other fruity flavors. Though we cant technically claim anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor or analgesic properties like we may want to, Myrcene is believed to have a myriad of health benefits!

This is our fourth season growing Critical Mass outdoors here at NurseGrown Organics. Every year she impresses us with her potent aromas, enormous yields, and resistance to mold and rot, always growing and finishing strong in the Vermont outdoor weather. A favorite of and game changer for my Mother, this plant helped her get off Fentanyl patches, Percocet and Xanax! Thank you Critical Mass and thank you plant medicine!
