Activism and education are incredibly important to us at NurseGrown, and we want to use our platform to show our support for the LGBTQIA+ community. NurseGrown proudly supports and employs people in the LGBTQIA+ community, and supports their fight for equality just as we support the fight against systemic racism in America.
Just like we need to remember how cannabis is used to target people of color in this country, we must remember that if it were not for events like the civil rights movements, the women’s suffrage movements, and the Stonewall riots, we would not have the rights and liberties we do today. We must remember people like Josephine Baker, Marsha P. Johnson, and Silvia Rivera who fought and made sacrifices for our rights and freedoms.
A large part of the education aspect of cannabis and Nursegrown is the idea that “Our Words Matter” when talking about cannabis, and this is also something we can reaffirm for Pride month. Just as it is important for us to adapt to and incorporate new language in regards to cannabis, it is also important to accept and incorporate new language in regards to gender orientation and use of pronouns.
Words Matter, and so do our attitudes and choices around them.
So, ask the questions, be open to suggestions and corrections, use the language you are asked to use and support people’s choices.
As allies and members of the LGBTQIA+ community we wanted to show our pride, and thanks to those before us.
